After “The Kissing Booth” comes “Love Hard”: Netflix-RomCom with stars from “Riverdale” and “Vampire Diaries”

Romantic comedies have huge hit potential on Netflix – so it’s no wonder the streaming giant is producing one after the other. In “Love Hard” you can expect, among others, Nina Dobrev (“Vampire Diaries”) and Charles Melton (“Riverdale”).

Homemade RomComs are undoubtedly paying off for Netflix. Because the romantic comedies are usually not only produced relatively quickly and cheaply, but are also simply watched by many subscribers.

In addition to sequels to successful series such as “The Kissing Booth” or “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” as well as to “Prinzessinnentausch”, lots of new romances originals are currently in the works. One of them: RomCom “Love Hard” about a love triangle for which the right trio of actors has now been found:

Also in “Love Hard” are Nina Dobrev, Charles Melton and Jimmy O. Yang.

These are the stars from “Love Hard”

Nina Dobrev: The Bulgarian is known for her roles in films such as “Barely Lethal”, “Flatliners” or “xXX 3: The Return of Xander Cage”, in which she is a nerdy weapons specialist. Most of her fans, however, should have won her as Elena Gilbert in the vampire hit series “Vampire Diaries”.

Nina Dobrev:

Charles Melton: Not as long in business as Dobrev, Charles Melton has already played one or the other big role. After guest appearances in series such as “Glee” and “American Horror Story” he finally achieved his breakthrough with the series “Riverdale”, in which he plays Reggie Mantle. He made the jump to the cinema in early 2020 alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence with “Bad Boys 3”.

Charles Melton:

Jimmy O. Yang: His career also began on television, where he finally became known in 2014 with “Silicon Valley”. In the cinema he was seen in “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Fantasy Island”, among others. Chan Kaifang has also been part of Netflix’s “Space Force” since 2020.

That’s what “Love Hard” is about

The film is officially described as a mixture of Rob Reiner’s cult romance “Harry and Sally” and “Roxanne” with Steve Martin. The focus is on a young woman (probably Dobrev) who meets a guy from the east coast on a dating app – with whom she promptly falls in love.

At Christmas she finally decides to surprise the man in her heart with a visit. But then she finds out that she has been caught by a fraudster who pretends to be a different guy – who is supposed to live in the same city.

But the “catfisher” doesn’t give up: If the pretty Californian pretends to be his girlfriend over the holidays, he promises to bring her together with the real man in his profile.

Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing wrote the script, and Hernán Jiménez (“Elsewhere”) will direct the film. “Love Hard” does not have an official start date yet, but the story sounds as if the film should be released around Christmas – maybe even in 2020, but more likely in 2021.
