“Shazam! 2” is so good: the director targets fans with a funny “trailer” for the DC sequel
It’s never too early to promote your film. “Shazam!” – director David F. Sandberg, who has already shown a sense of humor in the past, knows that too – and now with a fake trailer for “Shazam! 2 “inspires the network.
Similar to Peter Jackson, James Gunn or James Wan, director David F. Sandberg has used horror cinema as a springboard to advance to Hollywood’s A-League. Within a few years, the Swede landed on the director’s chair of the DC blockbuster “Shazam!”.
The now 39-year-old filmmaker didn’t bring too much experience with him, but Warner trusted the “Lights Out” and “Annabelle 2” directors enough to leave him “Shazam!” – with success. While Sandberg is now well up in the dream factory, he is nonetheless always up for a joke. He is now proving this with a first supposed teaser trailer for the already confirmed “Shazam! 2 “.
The first “reviews” are extremely positive
Anyone who hangs around on film and film rating portals (like the author of these lines) is likely to be annoyed again and again when films that no one has ever seen have already received numerous ratings, most of which are very positive or very negative.
In the film rating app Letterboxd, for example, you can already submit “reviews” as soon as the announced films are listed – even if they are of course not meaningful and usually only consist of comments from people who are looking forward to the film.

And on “Shazam! 2 “Apparently quite a few people are happy who shared this directly with the (letterboxd) world. Reason enough for David F. Sandberg to turn on the marketing machine and beat the drum for the comic sequel. Because it’s never too early for that anyway.
In the following video, the filmmaker simply summarized some of the already existing “reviews” of his film, which had not yet been shot, to create the first commercial for “Shazam! 2 “to do:
We haven’t shot Shazam 2 yet but there are already reviews up on Letterboxd. I’m pretty sure that means we’re allowed to start using review quotes for marketing. pic.twitter.com/q7rj528CDR— David F. Sandberg (@ponysmasher) August 14, 2020

Sandberg remains true to himself, because the director is already known for not mincing words and for allowing himself to have fun. Before the new “Aladdin” was released in theaters, he made fun of Will Smith’s Djinni and is also always good for a swipe at “Captain Marvel”.
